The
Foundation's grants are made possible by donations and monies raised by
Marianne Bernadotte and Vision of Light Gala Benefits. These fundraising
events have been successfully held in cities across the United States.
In addition to fundraising, they also serve to create awareness and promote
the necessity for advanced pediatric ophthalmological research.
For
information on The Vision of Light and upcoming fundraising activities,
please contact Marianna J. Baker at 1-212-288-4457.

The
Third International Symposium on Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP)
was held in
Anaheim
,
California
in 2003 as part of the
American
Academy
of Ophthalmology Meeting. About
150 Physicians from 22 nations attended.
In addition, nurses, photographers, basic scientists also
attended. The Bernadotte
Foundation sponsored the travel expenses and provided a stipend for
13 physicians from second and third world countries who were active
in ROP clinical or basic research.
The meeting brought to light many new and important ideas for
both clinical diagnosis and treatment as well as basic mechanisms of
diseases, and it also emphasized the fact that ROP is among the
leading causes of preventable blindness in children, and it
is worldwide today in its incidence. |
